GeoDirectory has Avada support built in, so you do not need a separate compatibility plugin or child theme for it. If a directory page shows an empty sidebar, two sidebars, or the wrong width, the cause is nearly always the Avada page options on the GeoDirectory template page behind it.
Where directory pages get their layout
Listing pages, category pages and search results are not normal WordPress pages. They use the template pages set at GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Pages:
- Details page for single listings.
- Archive page for category, tag and post type pages.
- Search Page for search results.
With Avada active, GeoDirectory reads the Avada page options from those template pages, including the sidebars, the sidebar position and the page template. So the layout is set once on the template and every listing, category or search page uses it.
Fixing an empty or extra sidebar
- Go to GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Pages and open the template page for the page that looks wrong.
- In the Avada page options, open the Sidebars section.
- Set Sidebar 1 and Sidebar 2. Choose None for a sidebar you do not want. A leftover second sidebar is what gives you an empty column.
- For a full width layout with no sidebars, set the page template to 100% Width.
- Update the page and check the front end.
If a template page is set to use the default sidebar, the global Avada sidebar settings for pages apply. Check those in the Avada options if the page options look right.
Your home page or location page is a normal WordPress page, so it uses its own Avada page options. Edit that page directly.
After changing Avada or GeoDirectory settings, clear any caching plugin and Avada’s own caches before you test. For more on designing these pages see Design or customize GeoDirectory pages.
