Answers to common GeoDirectory questions about pricing and payments. Click a question to open the answer.
Not completely. Description is a default field, so it shows on the add listing form for every package. What you can control per package is how much text it takes and whether it gets the editor.
- Go to Places > Settings > Packages (or the same page for your post type) and edit the free package.
- Turn on Limit Description Characters Length? and set Max. Description Characters to a small number.
- Turn on Disable HTML Editor? if free listings should only get plain text.
- Save the package.
The limit is applied when the listing is saved, so it cuts down what is stored as well as what is shown. If you want free listings to show a message in place of a long description, add your own tab with the tabs builder.
PayPal shows this error when the text sent with the payment is in a different character encoding from the one set on your PayPal account. Paid listings in GeoDirectory are now handled by GetPaid, and its PayPal Standard gateway always sends the payment as UTF-8.
Log in to PayPal, find the encoding setting for your PayPal buttons in your account settings, and set it to UTF-8 under the more options section, making sure both the encoding and the “same encoding for data sent from PayPal” choice are UTF-8.
If you only see the error while testing, try a real payment as well. The PayPal sandbox has behaved differently from live accounts here, especially with free trial plans. Our PayPal Standard guide covers the rest of the gateway setup.
Stripe does not follow redirects. A 301 means the webhook URL saved in your Stripe dashboard redirects somewhere else, most often from http to https or between the www and non-www version of your domain, so Stripe treats every delivery as failed.
Copy the webhook URL exactly as GetPaid shows it in its Stripe settings, check it starts with https if your site uses SSL, and update the endpoint in Stripe under Developers > Webhooks. Send a test event afterwards: it should return a 2xx status. The full steps are in Stripe Webhook Setup.
