Tick Hide Near Search Input in the settings of the GD > Search block or widget, or add hide_near_input="1" to the shortcode:
[gd_search hide_near_input="1"]
The search bar then has just the keyword box and the search button, which suits a directory that covers one city and where people search by name.
Each GD > Search on your site has its own settings, so change every one you use: the search page template, your header, sidebars and so on. Other location widgets, such as Location Manager’s GD > Near Me Button, aren’t affected.
Keeping the Near field for a one-city directory
The Near field also takes street names and landmarks, so visitors can search for restaurants near a particular street. If you keep it, enter your city in Search near additional at GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Search (click Show Advanced). GeoDirectory adds it to whatever the visitor types, so “Main Street” is looked up in your city and not somewhere else.
Neighbourhood links
If you use Location Manager with neighbourhoods, you can list them as links near the search bar so visitors can browse by area:
[gd_locations what="neighbourhood"]
See GD > Search for the other search bar options, and How to adjust the GD search bar with CSS to change its layout.
