If Avada shows “There was a problem with your action. Please try again or reload the page” when you save its options, and the message goes away when you deactivate GeoDirectory, a PHP error is breaking the request Avada sends in the background. The message does not say what the error is, so the first step is to find it.
Find the actual error
- Update WordPress, GeoDirectory and its add-ons, and Avada with its companion plugins, to the latest versions, then try again.
- If the error is still there, turn on WordPress debug logging by adding the lines below to wp-config.php, above the line that says “That’s all, stop editing”.
- Save the Avada options again so the error happens.
- Open wp-content/debug.log. The last entries show the error message and the file it came from.
define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );
define( 'WP_DEBUG_LOG', true );
define( 'WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY', false );
You can also open your browser’s developer tools before saving, go to the Network tab and click the failed admin-ajax.php request. A 500 status there confirms a server error, and the response sometimes shows the message.
Rule out a third plugin
Sometimes the clash only happens when a third plugin is also active. Deactivate everything except Avada’s plugins and GeoDirectory and try again, then turn the others back on one at a time. The Health Check & Troubleshooting plugin lets you do this for your own login only, so visitors keep seeing the normal site.
Send us what you found
GeoDirectory is meant to work with any theme, so a conflict like this is a bug we want to fix. Send our support team the error from debug.log and the versions of WordPress, GeoDirectory and Avada. Remove the debug lines from wp-config.php when you are done.
