If users fill in the GeoDirectory add listing form and the listing never appears, work through these checks in order.
- Look for pending listings. New frontend listings get the status set in “New listing default status” under GeoDirectory > Settings > General, and the default is Pending Review. They stay hidden until you publish them, so check Places > All Places for pending posts. Guide to Moderating Listings explains the workflow.
- Test logged in and logged out. Logged-out visitors can only submit when “Allow posting without logging in?” is ticked in GeoDirectory > Settings > General (an advanced setting) and “Anyone can register” is ticked in Settings > General in WordPress. Otherwise the form asks them to log in.
- Fill in every required field, including a category. Each listing should have at least one category, and the form won’t submit while a required field is empty.
- Rule out caching. Exclude the add listing page from page caching, and turn off JavaScript minify and combine options while testing. Cloudflare and server caches count too. See GeoDirectory and Caching Compatibility.
- Watch the browser console. Open your browser’s developer tools (F12), go to the Console tab and submit the form. A JavaScript error there usually names the plugin or theme causing it.
- Check for blocked requests. The form saves through
wp-admin/admin-ajax.php. A security plugin or firewall that blocks admin-ajax requests from the front end will stop listings saving. - Test for conflicts. On a staging copy, switch to a default WordPress theme and deactivate plugins other than GeoDirectory and its add-ons, then add them back one at a time.
