In GeoDirectory the whole address (street, city, region, country and zip) is one Address field per post type, and you can make it optional:
- Go to Places > Settings > Custom Fields (or the same page for your other post types).
- Open the Address field.
- Turn off Is required and save.
Users can then submit a listing without an address. You can’t make only the street optional while keeping city and region required, because they are all part of the same field.
Once a post type has an optional address, Settings > Permalinks shows a GeoDirectory Location Base (when not set) section. The words there (global, discover and explore by default) take the place of the country, region and city in the URL of a listing that has no address.
A listing with no address has no map position, so it won’t show on maps or in “near” searches. If you want listings that never have an address, such as websites or online services, see Can I add listings without an address?.
Keep the address but hide it
If the listing still belongs to a town but the owner works from home and doesn’t want their address shown, keep the address required and add the Private Address field instead. Add it from the predefined fields in Places > Settings > Custom Fields. It puts a checkbox on the add listing form, and when the owner ticks it:
- visitors see “Private Address” in place of the address details
- the listing is left off the map and out of near searches for everyone except the owner and admins
Setup steps are in How to set up Private Address. For service businesses that travel to customers, the Service Distance field lets owners show how far they cover.
