Filters that let visitors narrow down results, by features, price range, opening hours and so on, come from the Advanced Search add-on. Core GeoDirectory has the main search bar and sorting only.
Choose the filters
- Install and activate Advanced Search.
- Go to Places > Settings > Search (or the Search tab of your other post types).
- Add the fields you want visitors to filter by. Categories, select and multiselect fields, checkboxes, business hours, dates and text fields can all be used.
- Save.
Each post type has its own filters, so a restaurants post type can offer cuisine and price while a hotels post type offers star rating and facilities.
Show the filters in a sidebar
To give visitors a filter panel next to the results, add the GD > Search element to the sidebar of your archive and search templates and set Show to Advanced filters only. The normal search bar can stay at the top of the page. Set Open customize filters to Always open so the filters are visible straight away instead of behind a button. As a shortcode:
[gd_search show="advanced" customize_filters="always"]
To update the results without reloading the page each time a filter changes, go to GeoDirectory > Settings > Advanced Search and turn on AJAX search filters.
Full setup: Advanced Search setup guide. All the options of the search element are in GD > Search.
