GeoDirectory sets two different titles on its pages. The page title is the heading visitors see on the page. The meta title is the text in the browser tab and in search results. You set both at GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Titles & Meta, separately for the post type page, category and tag archives, single listings and the other GeoDirectory pages. Variables such as %%category%% and %%in_category%% fill in the details for each page.
Making the heading an H1
The Titles & Meta settings decide the text of the heading. The HTML tag (H1, H2 and so on) comes from whatever prints it.
- The GD > Page Title block prints the page title and has a tag setting that defaults to h1. Use it on archive and search templates.
- The GD > Post Title block has the same setting and defaults to h2. On a details page you can change it to h1 if your theme does not already print the listing title as an H1.
- Many themes print the archive title themselves. GeoDirectory then only changes the text, and the theme picks the tag. Change it in the theme, or hide the theme title and add GD > Page Title instead.
Using Yoast SEO
When Yoast SEO is active it takes over the meta title and meta description on GeoDirectory pages. The page titles from Titles & Meta still apply, so you keep control of the headings. The Titles & Meta screen shows a “Yoast SEO detected” notice with a Disable Yoast option, if you would rather have GeoDirectory set the meta titles and descriptions too.
To keep Yoast in charge but use GeoDirectory information in its templates, see How to Use GeoDirectory Snippet Variables in Yoast?. Rank Math works the same way: How to Use GeoDirectory Snippet Variables in Rank Math?. The settings themselves are described in Settings Overview for General > Titles & Meta.
