The title shown at the top of a GeoDirectory category page comes from a template in GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Titles & Meta. You can rewrite it there with a few placeholder tags, so you no longer need to remove actions or copy template functions into your theme.
By default the category title is All %%category%% %%in_location_single%%. On a site with Location Manager that gives a heading like “All Restaurants in Paris”.
Change the category title
- Go to GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Titles & Meta.
- Find the section for category and tag pages and edit the Category Title field.
- Build the title from the tags listed beside the field. Click a tag to copy it.
- Save the settings and reload a category page to check the result.
Some examples:
%%category%%shows just the category name, for example “Restaurants”.%%pt_plural%% %%in_location_single%% (%%category%%)gives “Places in Paris (Restaurants)”.%%category%% %%in_location%%adds the full location, for example “Restaurants in France, Ile-de-France, Paris”.
Other useful tags are %%in_category%% (the category name with “in” in front), %%pt_single%%, %%location_city%%, %%location_region%% and %%location_country%%. The location tags only have a value when you are viewing a location, so leave them out if you do not use Location Manager.
The same screen has a Category Meta Title and Category Meta Description. Those control the browser tab title and the search engine snippet, not the heading on the page. If Yoast SEO, Rank Math, SEOPress or All in One SEO is active, GeoDirectory leaves the meta title and description to that plugin. The on-page title still comes from the Category Title setting. See Settings overview for General > Titles & Meta for every field on that screen.
If your theme shows a different title
Some themes print their own archive heading (often the post type name) instead of the GeoDirectory title. In that case you can hide the theme heading in its own settings and add the GD > Page Title block, or the [gd_page_title] shortcode, to your archive template page. That block outputs the title from the Titles & Meta settings.
To show the category name above the category description, you can also use the GD > Category Description block on the archive template and start the description of each category with its name as a heading.
