Each GeoDirectory category has three image settings, and each one is used in a different place. Find them under Places > Categories when you edit a category.
- Map Icon: the marker for listings in this category on the map. Keep it small, as it is shown at the size you upload.
- Category Icon: a Font Awesome icon, used next to the category name in category lists and badges. Together with the Category Color it is also used to make the map marker when you don’t upload a Map Icon.
- Default Listing Image: the picture shown for a listing in this category when the listing has no images of its own.
A large picture uploaded as the Map Icon will show at full size on the map, so use the Default Listing Image for photos.
Show category images instead of icons
The GD > Categories widget shows the Category Icon by default. To show each category’s Default Listing Image instead, turn on “Use category image” in the widget settings:
[gd_categories use_image='1' image_size='medium']
Or set “Design type” to Image Background for cards with the image behind the category name. See GD > Categories for all options.
Shorten the listing text in lists
Listings on category pages and in the GD > Listings widget use your Archive item template. The text length comes from the limit setting of the GD > Post Content block in that template, for example [gd_post_content key='post_content' limit='60']. Full descriptions still show on the listing page. The steps are in how to change the length of the text shown with GD Loop and GD Listings.
