Every GeoDirectory map (the GD > Map widget, the block, or the [gd_map] shortcode) has a Zoom level setting. On Auto, the map zooms to fit the markers it shows. Choose a number from 1 (zoomed right out) to 19 (street level) and the map uses that zoom instead.
Archive, location and directory maps
A map that shows only one listing will zoom in until you can barely see the streets around it. To stop that, give the map a fixed zoom:
- Edit the page, template or widget area that holds the map. Archive maps usually sit in the archive template page set at GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Pages.
- Open the map settings and click Show Advanced to reveal Zoom level.
- Pick a level. Something between 12 and 14 usually shows the surrounding streets.
- Save.
A fixed zoom also applies when the map has lots of markers, so some may be outside the view until the visitor zooms out.
The map on the listing details page
The Map tab on a listing page uses the zoom saved with that listing. When someone adds or edits a listing and zooms the map on the add listing form, that zoom is stored with it, which is why two listings can open at very different zoom levels. To fix one listing, edit it, zoom the map in the address section to the level you want, and save.
To use the same zoom on every listing, replace the default Map tab with your own map:
- Go to Places > Settings > Tabs (or the Tabs screen of the post type you want to change).
- Remove the Map tab.
- Add a Shortcode tab, call it Map, and paste the shortcode below into its content.
- Save.
[gd_map width="100%" height="425px" maptype="ROADMAP" zoom="14" map_type="post" post_settings="0" map_directions="1"]
post_settings="0" tells the map to ignore the zoom saved with the listing, and zoom="14" sets the level. In the widget or block the same option is called Use post map zoom and type?, and it appears when Map type is set to Post Map.
