No. Places is GeoDirectory’s built-in post type and can’t be deleted, even with the Custom Post Types add-on, which can only delete post types you created. You can rename Places to anything you like and hide it from visitors.
Rename Places
Go to Places > Settings > General and change the name, singular name, slug and labels. Many directories use the built-in post type as their main one under a different name. Only the internal key, gd_place, stays the same, and visitors never see it.
Hide Places from the search bar
The post type dropdown in the search bar only lists post types that have listings. If you never add a place, Places doesn’t appear there.
To hide it even when it has listings, add this snippet to your child theme’s functions.php or a snippets plugin:
add_filter( 'geodir_search_form_post_types', 'my_gd_hide_places_in_search' );
function my_gd_hide_places_in_search( $post_types ) {
if ( isset( $post_types->gd_place ) ) {
unset( $post_types->gd_place );
}
return $post_types;
}
For a single search bar, you can instead set its Default Post Type and tick Hide Post Type Selector in the GD > Search settings.
Other places to tidy up
- Tick Disable frontend add at Places > Settings > General so nobody can submit new places.
- Remove Places from your menus.
- Check GD > Listings and GD > Map blocks that point at Places and change their post type.
