In GeoDirectory, a location is a city together with its region and country, plus neighbourhoods if you turn them on. Location Manager creates locations from the addresses of your listings, so you do not need to import them before importing listings. Import them when you want city pages ready in advance, or to add meta titles and descriptions for many cities at once.
CSV columns
Each row is one city. Every row needs city, region, country, latitude and longitude.
city_slug: optional. If blank, it is created from the city name.location_id: only needed when you update an existing location.city_meta_title,city_meta_descandcity_desc, plus the same three for region and country: optional SEO text.
The import screen has a link to download a sample CSV. Start from that file so the column names match.
Import the file
- Open the Location Manager import screen and choose Import Locations.
- Upload your CSV file.
- Turn on Update existing locations if the file changes cities you already have. Without it, rows for existing cities are skipped.
- Run the import.
Universities, campuses and other places
A location can only be a city, region or country, as the map service reports them. A university, school or venue cannot be a location, and a full street address does not go in this file. Add places like these as listings, for example in their own post type. Visitors can then type the place or its address into the Near field of the search bar and see listings within the search radius around it.
To connect two post types, such as student housing and universities, see how to link two custom post types. For adding single cities by hand, see how to add a new location.
