In a GeoDirectory post type that uses locations, every listing needs an address. The address puts the listing on the map and in a city, so the field cannot be made optional. For businesses that work from home or travel to their customers, use one of the options below.
Let owners hide their address
The Private Address field adds a checkbox to the add listing form.
- Go to Places > Settings > Custom Fields.
- Click Private Address in the list of available fields.
- Save the field.
When an owner ticks the box, visitors see “Private Address” in place of the address. The listing is left off maps and out of near me and distance searches for visitors, but it still appears in its city and category pages. The listing owner and site admins still see the full address. See how to set up a private address.
Use a post type with no address
With the Custom Post Types add-on you can create a post type with Disable physical location turned on. Listings in that post type have no address field and no map. This suits services that cover a whole area. Because a listing belongs to one post type, a business that wants its address shown would go in your normal post type instead. Show the area a business covers
The Service Distance field lets a business say how far it travels to customers. See how to use the service distance field.
