GeoDirectory reviews are WordPress comments, so a listing only shows the review form when its comments are open. If Write a Review does nothing, or the review form is missing, the listings were probably saved with comments closed.

This often happens with imported listings. Each new listing takes the “Allow people to submit comments on new posts” setting from Settings > Discussion as it was at the moment the listing was created. Changing that setting later only affects listings you add after the change.

Open comments on existing listings in bulk

1. Go to Places > All Places (or the list for your other post type).
2. If you have many listings, open Screen Options at the top and raise the number of items per page.
3. Tick the box at the top of the list to select every listing on the page, choose Edit from the Bulk actions menu and click Apply.
4. In the bulk edit panel, set Comments to Allow and click Update.

Repeat this for each page of listings and for each post type.

With thousands of listings, WP-CLI is quicker. This command opens comments on every Places listing:

wp post update $(wp post list --post_type=gd_place --format=ids) --comment_status=open

Change gd_place to the post type you need, for example gd_event.

Check the post type settings

Go to Places > Settings > General and click Show Advanced. Make sure Disable comments is unticked. The Disable ratings option next to it keeps comments but removes the star ratings, so leave that unticked too if you want stars.

New and imported listings

Tick “Allow people to submit comments on new posts” at Settings > Discussion before you import or add listings, and they will accept reviews from the start.

To close reviews on one listing instead, see How to disable comments on a listing.
