If the map keeps spinning and listing images stay blank after you update your plugins, a JavaScript file is failing to load or run. GeoDirectory draws its maps with JavaScript and also lazy loads listing images with JavaScript, so one broken script stops both. The cause is usually a caching or optimisation plugin that is still serving old files or has combined GeoDirectory’s scripts in a way that breaks them.
What to check
- Clear every cache: your caching plugin, any server cache from your host, your CDN (Cloudflare, for example) and your browser. Combined or minified files built before the update can still point at the old GeoDirectory scripts.
- Open the broken page, press F12 to open your browser’s developer console and reload. Red errors tell you which script failed, and the file path often shows which plugin it came from.
- Temporarily deactivate your optimisation plugin and any other plugin or module that minifies, combines, defers or delays JavaScript. If maps and images come back, the fix is in that plugin’s settings.
- In that plugin, exclude GeoDirectory’s files from combining, deferring and delaying, then turn it back on. Excluding the path
/plugins/geodirectory/covers the map scripts, including the bundled OpenStreetMap (Leaflet) files. If you use Google Maps, excludemaps.googleapis.comtoo, and don’t defer or delay jQuery, which GeoDirectory’s scripts need. - If images are still blank, switch off the other plugin’s image lazy loading. GeoDirectory already lazy loads its own listing images.
- If the console shows errors from GeoDirectory’s own map files, tick Disable Scripts On Call at GeoDirectory > Settings > General > Developer. GeoDirectory normally loads map scripts only on pages that need them, and this setting turns that off.
Our caching compatibility guide lists the settings for the common caching plugins. If only the map fails and images load fine, the problem is more likely your map API key: see Maps have stopped working on my site.
