When a listing has no images, GeoDirectory shows a fallback image. It checks several places in a fixed order and uses the first one it finds, so the listing default image only appears when nothing earlier in the order is set.
The fallback order
For a listing with no uploaded images, the GD > Post Images block checks:
- The listing’s logo, if one was uploaded.
- The default image of the category. On a category page this is the image of the category being viewed. Everywhere else it is the image of the listing’s default category.
- The default image of the post type.
- The listing default image.
This means a category default image wins over the listing default image. If a category has one, every listing in it without its own images shows the category image, and that is the most common reason the listing default image seems to be ignored. A logo wins over all of them.
Where each image is set
- Category default image: Places > Categories, edit the category, Default Listing Image.
- Post type default image: Places > Settings > General, Default image (one of the advanced settings).
- Listing default image: GeoDirectory > Settings > Design > Archives, Listing default image.
Change the order for one block
The Fallback types setting of GD > Post Images decides which fallbacks the block uses and in what order. It takes a comma separated list made from logo, cat_default, cpt_default and listing_default. Leave out the ones you do not want. This example, for an archive item template, skips the logo and the category images:
[gd_post_images type='image' link_to='post' types='post_images' fallback_types='cpt_default,listing_default']
If your archive item template uses GD > Post Images with logo in Image types, as the shortcode version of the default template does, listings with a logo show it in the listings view. Remove logo from Image types and Fallback types if you only want listing photos there.
