Delete "Places" Post Type

    I need to delete the Places post type. It is not one that we will be using. But I notice there is no way to delete it in the Custom Post Types editor and I can’t seem to find a way to omit it from the main advanced search bar on the homepage.

    Gd > design > map > tick Places to hide on map.

    But that doesn’t delete it from the advanced search menu, it seems.
    Can you try make sure you have no listings or categories as Places, and that none of your widgets includes showing Places, and remove them from all the menus.
    And check back whether that solves it.
    If not, we might have to ask Vikas.

    Thanks Guust, I tried removing places from every location you mentioned. The only place it remains is on the advanced search menu… which is the place I need it removed from the most.

    It’s much better to delete one that you created and rename places to whatever you need…

    Well, I already have all my post types and categories built out with listings in place. It would be SO much easier if I could just delete or deactivate it from the search bar.

    Is there anything that could be done?

    You can hop into your database and sort things out there if you know what you’re doing [backup first just in case!]

    At the moment there is no easy way to do this.

    Trust me it is SO much easier to delete one that you created and rename places than it would be for us creating an option to delete the default CPT or exclude it from the search bar.

    I went ahead and took you advice Paolo. It seems to be working out well. I just wonder if there are going to be any issues that come from the fact that I can’t change the post type name and taxonomies; Just the slug and labels have been changed. Please let me know. Thx

    I use Places for Attractions in our demo and I see no problem at all.

    I’m a little confused, because above you state that you can rename places, yet here https://wpgeodirectory.com/support/topic/how-to-remove-places/page/2/#post-20837 you say we can’t….

    Can we or can’t we?

    You can rename everything except the post type gd_place.
    You can rename everything at GD > Custom Post Types.
    In the latest versions it is not possible anymore to rename the post type for safety.
